A big thank you to everyone who came out to Jakked Hardcore Gym this past weekend to support the lifters at the 2012 UPA Illinois State Championships. We could not have asked for a more beautiful day and a better selection of lifters. Multiple records were set, several new lifters successfully completed their first competition, and the meet was kept moving by our wonderful volunteer staff.
We're working on getting all results finalized and videos edited, and should have both posted in the near future.
This Saturday, the 29th, is the 2012 UPA Illinois State Powerlifting Championships, right here at Jakked Hardcore Gym. We have a respectable field of 37 competitors this year with several divisions and weight classes shaping up to be heavily contested. Lifting starts at 10AM with squatting, and bench and deadlift will proceed immediately after the previous event concludes.
Admission is only $3, so we hope to see you there!

Yoga is coming to Jakked Hardcore Gym! This isn't your strip mall health club yoga though, this is JAKKED yoga. Maggie, champion figure competitor and Jakked personal trainer, is also a certified yoga instructor with years of experience. She'll be finding new and interesting ways to kick your butt while improving strength, flexibility, muscle control, and posture.
Classes are Wednesdays at 6AM and Sundays at 7:30AM as demand warrants. Classes are $10 for members or $15 for non-members. Please contact the gym or Maggie on Facebook to reserve a spot, class sizes are limited.
As a reminder, the deadline for the UPA IL State entries is the 8th, less than a week away! Get yours in the mail today to avoid late fees.
It's now only 6 weeks until the 2012 UPA Illinois State Championships, right here at Jakked Hardcore Gym, and less than 4 until the entry deadline. The results from the UPA portion of the Iron Battle on the Mississippi this past weekend are now available on the UPA site. Highlights include 1st-in-class placings from Jakked members Paul Gonzalez, Tony Chirico, Crystal Wells, and David Wells.

We're now only a week away from the Iron Battle on the Mississippi, a three day long festival of strength in sunny Dubuque, IA, the #1 vacation spot for people in the immediate vicinity of Dubuque, IA. The Grand River Center will be bursting with all the UPA powerlifting and NAS strongman action you can handle.

This past weekend in Milwaukee, WI was the 2012 Battle at the Beach NAS competition. Jakked was represented by Rob Simnick, who put up a strong showing in a very competitive field. The Iron Battle on the Mississippi in Dubuque, IA is less than a month away, and Jakked will be hosting some yet-to-finalized festivities for Montgomery Fest a couple weeks after that, so watch this space for more details.

Indy Muscle Fest last weekend was a lot of fun, with great powerlifting, strongman, and armwrestling competitions. Byron Hicks made his competitive armwreslting debut, taking 2nd in the Men's Novice Right-Hand 90kg+ class, while Bull Huber took 3rd in the Men's Open Left-Hand 100kg+. Don't miss the NPC Junior National Bodybuilding Championships in Chicago this weekend, as Jakked trainer Maggie Rung takes the stage in the Figure competition. Best of luck Maggie!
All this weekend is the Indy Muscle Fest in Indianapolis,IN, featuring both UPA powerlifting and NAS strongman competition. We hope you'll join the Jakked community as we head out to this great annual meet put on by our friends at Hoffman Barbell.

As some of you may already have heard, this past weekend we lost a member of our community, Greg Snarksi. He was a Montgomery resident and just 18 years old. Our thoughts are with his family.
Losing a member of the Jakked community casts a pallor over what was otherwise a very successful weekend. Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday in excellent weather to support all the athletes at the Powercorps Challenge.
Ever wanted to try your hand at competitive armwrestling? There's more to it than you'd expect, and training for it can help improve your grip, endurance, and explosive activation, which have carryover to strongman, olympic lifting, and powerlifting. Plus, for those with a competitive spirit, there's the excitement of directly facing off against opponents.
The Jakked Armbreakers are the newest strength sport team at Jakked Hardcore Gym, meeting every Saturday at 10 AM. In addition, we're happy to announce that starting June 7th, every Thursday at 7pm at the Saddle Up Saloon in Aurora will be "Roadhouse Thursday", featuring open amateur competition and a free seminar. Competition winners will receive free entry into upcoming sanctioned events with cash prizes.

May means warmth, May means flowers, May means bodybuilding! May 12th was Illinois State Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure, Bikini, Wheelchair & Physique in Chicago. Toula Coffey represented Jakked Hardcore Gym, placing 3rd in the Masters Figure class and 4th in Figure Open. A week later, Bridget Backhaus took the stage at the Grand Prix Natural Figure & Novice in Rockford and had a strong showing in the bikini class.
That's just the start of the summer season, with more competitions quickly on the way. Next up is the NPC Jr Nationals in Chicago on June 15th-16th. See you there!

This past weekend at the UPA National Powerlifting Championships in Dubuque, IA was another triumph for the Jakked Hardcore Gym Powercorps. The slightly lower than usual turn-out was more than made up for by the success of all our members:
In addition, at the USPA Texas State Championships in Austin, TX, Therese Janc won 1st place Women's Open, 1st place Women's Sub-Master, Women's Best Lifter, and set national records in all 3 lifts. Two other members lifted with her, David Wells with 501-369-523 and Crystal Boyd Wells with 180-121-303.

This weekend the Jakked Hardcore Gym Powercorps is rolling out to Dubuque, IA for the 2012 UPA National Powerlifting Championships. Many of our members have spent the last several months focused on this day, and we're looking forward to a solid showing. If you can make the drive out to support them, they will appreciate it and you won't be disappointed!

The 2012 Olde Time Strongman Challenge was a huge success, and we'd like to thank everyone who came out to participate and watch. It was a great show, with 24 competitors and close competition in every weight class. As usual, we'll be hosting more awesome strongman events throughout the year, so don't fret if you missed out!
At 10AM this Sunday, the 26th, the Jakked Armbreakers arm-wrestling squad will be hosting an event here at Jakked Hardcore Gym. Come by and check it out!
Don't forget, this Saturday, February 18th, the 2012 NAS Olde-Time Strongman Challenge starts at Noon right here at Jakked Hardcore Gym. It's an annual event here featuring 21st century strongmen and women competing in events drawn from the golden era of strongmen in the early 20th century, and is one of the biggest crowd-pleasers.
